Withdrawal
Primarily applies before formal publication

A. GENERAL PRINCIPLES

Editorial actions concerning published or submitted manuscripts are taken carefully and proportionately. The journal aims to protect both the integrity of the scholarly record and the fair treatment of authors and other parties involved.

  • Concerns should be assessed on the basis of available evidence.
  • Authors may be contacted for clarification or supporting documentation.
  • Editorial actions should be proportionate to the nature and seriousness of the identified problem.
  • Corrections and retractions should be communicated transparently.
  • The scholarly record should be preserved rather than silently altered.

B. CORRECTION POLICY

A correction may be issued when an error is identified in a published article but the error does not invalidate the main findings, interpretation, or overall reliability of the work.

Examples of Issues That May Require Correction
  • Errors in author names, affiliations, or correspondence details;
  • Minor errors in figures, tables, calculations, or data presentation;
  • Incorrect or incomplete references;
  • Errors in acknowledgments or funding information;
  • Production or layout errors introduced during publication;
  • Other factual errors that do not invalidate the principal findings.

Correction Notice

Where appropriate, a correction notice will identify the article concerned, explain the nature of the correction, and maintain a clear relationship between the correction and the original published article.

C. RETRACTION POLICY

Retraction is considered when a published article contains serious problems that substantially undermine the reliability, validity, originality, ethical acceptability, or integrity of the publication.

Grounds for Retraction May Include
  • Unreliable findings resulting from serious error or misconduct;
  • Fabrication, falsification, or inappropriate manipulation of data;
  • Serious plagiarism;
  • Duplicate or redundant publication without appropriate disclosure;
  • Unauthorized use of copyrighted material;
  • Serious authorship or contributorship violations;
  • Research conducted in serious violation of applicable ethical requirements;
  • Other substantial publication misconduct that compromises the scholarly record.

D. RETRACTION NOTICE

When an article is retracted, the journal will seek to ensure that the retraction is clearly identifiable and transparent.

  • The notice should clearly identify the retracted article;
  • The original article should remain identifiable as retracted;
  • The retraction notice should be linked to the original article where possible;
  • The reason for retraction should be stated clearly;
  • The party initiating the retraction may be identified where appropriate;
  • The journal will avoid silently removing the publication record.

E. PRESERVATION OF THE SCHOLARLY RECORD

Published articles are part of the scholarly record. Therefore, a retracted article will ordinarily remain accessible in a form that clearly identifies its retracted status rather than being silently deleted. This approach supports transparency and allows readers to understand the publication history of the article.

F. WITHDRAWAL POLICY

Withdrawal generally refers to the removal of a manuscript from the editorial process before formal publication. Authors who wish to withdraw a manuscript should communicate the request to the Editorial Team through the journal's official submission system or editorial communication channel.

Before Peer Review

Authors may request withdrawal before the manuscript enters the external peer-review process.

During Peer Review

Withdrawal requests should include a clear reason because reviewers and editors may already have invested substantial time in manuscript evaluation.

After Acceptance

Requests made after acceptance require careful editorial consideration because the manuscript may already have entered copyediting or production.

G. WITHDRAWAL REQUEST

A withdrawal request should normally include:

  • Manuscript title;
  • Manuscript identification number, where available;
  • Name of the corresponding author;
  • Reason for requesting withdrawal;
  • Confirmation that the request is made with the knowledge of the authors concerned.

H. PUBLISHED ARTICLES

Withdrawal Is Not the Normal Mechanism After Publication

Once an article has been formally published, concerns regarding its accuracy or integrity will ordinarily be addressed through a correction, retraction, or other appropriate publication notice rather than ordinary manuscript withdrawal.

I. EDITORIAL INVESTIGATION

When a concern is raised, the Editorial Team may conduct an appropriate investigation before deciding whether correction, retraction, withdrawal, or another action is necessary.

The investigation may involve communication with authors, reviewers, editors, relevant institutions, or other parties where necessary to clarify the facts and evaluate the available evidence.

J. EDITORIAL DECISION

The final decision concerning a correction, retraction, withdrawal, or related publication action is made by the responsible editor or Editor in Chief after considering the available evidence, explanations from relevant parties, and the need to preserve the accuracy and integrity of the scholarly record.

K. TRANSPARENCY OF PUBLICATION NOTICES

Correction and retraction notices should be written clearly and made accessible through the journal platform. Where applicable, notices should identify the affected article, describe the editorial action taken, and explain the reason for that action sufficiently to maintain a transparent publication record.
