Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the application of the First In First Out (FIFO) method in managing raw material inventory at Mr. Norman’s home-based tempeh industry in Rumah Tiga Village, Teluk Ambon District. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that the FIFO principle has been manually implemented in managing soybean inventory as the main raw material for tempeh production and has proven effective in maintaining raw material quality, reducing the risk of spoilage, and improving the efficiency of raw material utilization. Nevertheless, the inventory recording system remains manual and highly dependent on workers’ memory, which may affect accuracy and consistency. Therefore, this study recommends the adoption of a simple digital recording system to enhance inventory control, demonstrating that modern inventory management principles can be effectively adapted by home-based industries without the need for complex systems.
